About Us

ABOUT US:

My name is Sandra Collins and I'm 27 years old. Everyone calls me Sandia though (it means 'watermelon' in Spanish (I'm half Mexican). Thanks Tia's!)  I'm a bit of a nerd, quirky, and not always comfortable in my likes and dislikes. But God has been showing me how to embrace my uniqueness, as He is the one who made me that way. I was born in Arkansas and have lived here most of my life. We lived in Lennox, Iowa for a few months and then in Kansas City, Missouri for 4 years before moving back to Northwest Arkansas.

KC is my husband and he is 29 years old. His legal name is Catlin, so don't get confused if you see that on his Facebook page! He is definitely a Southern gentleman. KC was in the Army and was deployed to Iraq. He received his Honorable Discharge papers in 2011 and has been an "ordinary citizen" ever since. KC was born and has lived in Northwest Arkansas his whole life. His mom and dad have lived in the same house since he was 6 months old!

KC and I have been married since April of 2006. KC was the first boy I ever went on a date with and I was the first girl he ever went on a date with. I was 17 and he was almost 20. We watched The Day After Tomorrow at the theater. We were both too nervous to really pay attention to it. Haha! We dated off and on for the next few years, as he was deployed to Iraq 3 months after our first date. Finally in the fall of 2005, after dating for our 3rd time, we decided to pray long and hard about our relationship because we knew we were wanting this to lead to marriage. Long story short, we got married the following April.

That October we found out we were pregnant with Caedmon. He was born on May 30th, almost 2 months after our first anniversary. We were elated! Then in June of 2008, we found out we were pregnant with Oliver. We were a bit nervous, as we had planned to wait until Caed was at least 18 months old to have a second child. But we were soon excited with the idea of them being so close in age.

In October of 2010 we decided to start praying about how to expand our family and God led us to adoption. It’s been a long and rough journey. There were many unknowns when we stepped into this – including finances. But God was faithful and He provided for us every single step of the way. We mailed off our very first piece of paperwork on February 11, 2011 and were finally matched with our girl on February 7, 2014. Almost 3 years to the day.

She’s a beautiful 4 year old from the Northern region of Ethiopia. We’ve been told she loves soccer and loves to sing to anyone who will listen. She’s also a big fan of coloring and has already mastered outlining the characters before coloring them in. She also loves hopscotch. We were excited to see a short video clip of her hopping from one side to the other.

Caedmon is 7 years old and will be starting 2nd grade this fall. He absolutely loves it. He's even shown a love of reading, just like his mom and dad. He is VERY outgoing and loves to make people laugh. His love language is affirmation. He loves movies and quote them as well as his momma can.
Oliver is 5 years old and will be starting Kindergarten this fall. Oliver is our sweetie. He loves cuddles - that's his love language. He loves coloring and drawing - as a matter of fact, most of the surfaces in our house have been "tagged" by  Ollie.
Both of the boys are excited about having a little sister. But Oliver  has already developed this fierce protection for her. He remembers to include her in future plans already; Caedmon is starting to do this now. Oliver came to me one day and said "Mommy, I wanna go to da beach. Can we go wif *Bertie* when she gets here?" He's never been to the beach before, but didn't want to go without her.

He's always wanting to get things for her from the store - clothes, toys, books, movies, etc. Caedmon came to me the other day - out of the blue - and said "Mom, pinky promise we can go back to Mickey Mouse World when she gets here". He had his pinky sticking out the whole time he was talking. Haha.

As you can see, we are all SO excited about Bertie coming home. We should be traveling for our first trip by the end of June or early July. We’re praying we’re all home together by August.

Feel free to email me at collinsadoptionfund@gmail.com if you have any questions. I’m happy to talk about adoption.
